Tab Deck v1.1.0: A Fresh New Look and Smarter Features

Spread the love

Back in December, I announced the first release of Tab Deck, a Chrome extension designed to save, organize, and reopen groups of browser tabs. You can read the original announcement here: Exploring Tab Deck.

During my holidays, I used a calm and peaceful evening (my baby girl was sleeping) to work on polishing the user experience, adding a few quality-of-life improvements, and refreshing the UI with the help of Cursor. Today, I’m introducing version 1.1.0! I also drafted the new one page site: https://organizer.solutions/tabdeck.html.

✨ What’s New in v1.1.0

🎨 Modern Card-Based UI

The popup now features a clean, card-based design with smooth animations and hover effects. Managing your tab sets feels more intuitive and visually engaging.

⏳ Loading States & Empty States

No more confusion during operations—loading indicators provide instant feedback, and if you don’t have any tab sets saved yet, you’ll see a helpful empty state with clear actions to get started.

🔍 Enhanced Search

The search bar is now debounced and highlighted, making it faster and easier to filter through your tab sets in real time.

⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts

Two new shortcuts have been added:

  • Ctrl+S → Save current tabs
  • Ctrl+N → Create a new empty deck (add a new tab using context menu in the given page)

🔔 Notifications

Every action (save, edit, delete, etc.) now provides a toast notification, so you know exactly what’s happening without breaking your flow.

⚙️ Options & Settings Page

The Options Page has also been redesigned and expanded into a proper dashboard:

  • 📊 Statistics: Number of decks, total tabs, last updated times
  • 💾 Storage Monitoring: Visual usage bars for storage
  • 📤 Export/Import: Backup and restore your tab decks
  • 🧹 Data Management: Clear everything with a confirmation dialog

🔧 Under the Hood

This release also comes with several invisible but important improvements:

  • Robust message queue system between popup and background worker
  • Retry logic to handle failures gracefully
  • Context menu synchronization when decks change
  • Optimized event delegation for faster performance
  • Lazy loading for large tab sets

🗺️ Road Ahead

There’s still plenty of room for improvement—new ideas and features are already on the roadmap. But the main focus of this release was a smoother, more reliable user experience with a modernized UI.

If you want to give Tab Deck v1.1.0 a try, grab it from the Chrome Web Store or jump to the landing page and let me know your thoughts. Your feedback helps shape the next iterations!
